One ecosystem, not a patchwork of separate systems
Silver Shield monitoring in every single bedroom
Faster awareness of risk and quicker staff response
Technology specified from day one, not added later
Most care homes end up running a patchwork of separate systems. Nurse call sits in one silo, monitoring sits in another, and the digital care record is somewhere else again. The result is familiar to anyone who has worked in the sector: duplicated alerts, gaps in visibility, slower response times, and additional pressure on staff who are already stretched.
For Fisher Care Group — a values-led provider that has been caring for its community since 1986 — The Maltings was an opportunity to do things differently. As Bridlington’s newest luxury care home, it needed to set a new operational standard, with a digital foundation designed in from the start rather than retrofitted later.
Spark Care led the technology delivery alongside Fisher Care Group and the Syndora Alto team, putting two core systems in place to operate as one connected ecosystem.
Charis nurse call, powered by Alto Enhance at its core, brings digitised workflows, alerts and staff communication together into a single day-to-day system. The nurse call isn’t just a button on the wall — it’s the operational heartbeat of the home, routing the right information to the right person at the right time.
Silver Shield was deployed in every single bedroom as part of a proactive monitoring approach. The system continuously monitors movement patterns and vital signs without cameras or wearables, detecting early respiratory changes, sleep disturbance, and fall risk indicators before they escalate.
The two systems were specified, configured and integrated to work together — so an alert, a workflow, and a clinical insight all flow through the same connected environment rather than living in isolation.
“Care technology delivers its real value when it’s not sold as isolated devices, but designed as a connected ecosystem that improves visibility, response and the everyday delivery of care.”

Feedback from the people involved in bringing The Maltings to life — the operator, the home leadership, and the wider delivery team.
Leadership
“From day one, we wanted The Maltings to operate as a truly connected home, not a collection of separate systems. The integration of Silver Shield and Charis has given our teams greater visibility, faster response, and confidence in the way we deliver care. It’s been a smooth and successful installation, and the impact is already clear.”

Managing Director, Fisher Care Group
Operations
“Day to day, the difference is in how quickly and clearly our team can respond. Everything is connected, so staff aren’t chasing information or dealing with multiple systems. It allows us to focus more on residents and less on processes, which is exactly how care should feel.”

Home Manager, The Maltings
Partner
“The Maltings is a strong example of what’s possible when technology is designed as a connected ecosystem from the outset. Working closely with Spark Care and Fisher Care Group allowed us to deliver a solution where monitoring, nurse call, and workflows operate together seamlessly, supporting both staff and residents in a meaningful way.”
Syndora Alto
Delivery Partner
The Maltings opened with a digital foundation built around connected care from day one. Staff can act on risk sooner, communicate more clearly, and access the right information without chasing it across multiple disconnected systems. Silver Shield gives them earlier visibility of the changes that matter — respiratory shifts, sleep disturbance, balance changes — so the response to a resident’s needs is proactive rather than reactive.
The project has also become a reference example in the sector. It has been featured in communications connected to Syndora Alto as a case of modern care technology delivered in a joined-up way, with public endorsement from Joshua Fisher on the success of the Silver Shield and Charis installation.
For Fisher Care Group, that has translated into a home where kindness, as their own tagline puts it, genuinely lives — supported by a digital backbone built to keep it that way.
“Connected care isn’t a slogan, it’s an operating model. The Maltings is what happens when you design the technology in from day one — when nurse call, monitoring and staff workflow are treated as one ecosystem, not three procurement decisions. That’s the difference you feel as a resident, a family member, and a member of staff.”
